Woodbine: Empire Rising graduates

Empire Rising ($9.50) broke his maiden in the second with blinkers off, in a time of 1:45.62 for the mile and a sixteenth. Favored Perfect Cherokee was a troubled third in the 8-horse field. Holy Knight, a half-brother to G1 winners Ghostzapper and City Zip, bolted on the backstretch and was eased, but was okay after the race.

The lone turf race today, the 7th, has been moved to the Polytrack. Cloudy/humid, without much wind, to start the 9-race card. The Pick 6 carryover is $686.

Woodbine: Jacally notches stakes

Jacally ($12.70) nailed favored Princess Chelsea on the wire to notch her first stakes in the $127,400 Passing Mood. She covered seven furlongs on the grass in 1:21.25, and it was the third win on the card for jockey Eurico Da Silva, who also won the fifth aboard favored Point Tupper.

Leading rider Eurico Da Silva swept the early double on two chalky winners, La Gran Ruby and Set in Stone.

Mekong Melody ($13.90) nosed out another Roger Attfield charge, favored Ave, to capture the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes under Patrick Husbands.

In the $150K Shady Well, 3-5 favorite Roxy Gap prevailed over 17-1 shot Tree Pose. Corey Fraser rode Roxy Gap for trainer Mark Casse.

Woodbine: Asmussen WO slump ends

Trainer Steve Asmussen was shut out with his previous 26 Woodbine starters, before favored Regally Ready romped in the 2nd, running six and a half furlongs in a quick 1:16.11 in the maiden special for 3yos and up.
