Redding Colliery was named horse of the meet for his win in the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap, the main event on the Lone Star Million Day card May 31.
Chris Landeros and Tom Durant were honored as the respective leading jockey and owner at the Lone Star Park in a presentation that followed the ninth race. Landeros is scheduled to ride at Louisiana Downs on Thursday, while Durant will race in the region while shipping from Lone Star, which will now operate as a training center. Durant also is scheduled to send a division of horses to Zia Park, the Hobbs, N.M., meet that opens Sept. 11. Jack Bruner is the private trainer for Durant.
Bret Calhoun was honored as Lone Star Park's leading trainer for the meet in a presentation that followed the eighth race. It is the first local title for Calhoun, who grew up in Grand Prairie.
Gold Wonder, who is sitting at 4-1 for the upcoming eighth race, has been taken back to the paddock for a rider change. The new rider has not yet been announced.
Wasted Tears has been named the champion older female at the Lone Star Park meet that ends on Sunday. She won the Grade 3 Ouija Board Distaff here May 31, one start after taking the Grade 2 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland. Wasted Tears could make her next start in the Grade 1, $500,000 Diana at Saratoga on July 31, according to her trainer, Bart Evans.
Game On Dude, who won this year's Grade 3 Lone Star Derby, and Bonnie Blue Flag, who accounted for the $100,000 Cinemine for 3-year-old fillies here May 31, have been named the respective champion 3-year-old and champion 3-year-old filly of the Lone Star meet. Both horses are trained by Bob Baffert.
Hidden Recipe, an 11-length maiden special weight winner over Big Scrape earlier this month at Lone Star Park, was flattered in the second race when Big Scrape came back and took the maiden special weight. It was a seven and a half furlong turf race for 2-year-olds, and Big Scrape paid $39. Alfredo Contreras rode the winner for trainer Lascelles Wisdom.
Hidden Recipe, who is owned by Tom Durant and trained by Jack Bruner, is a candidate for a $100,000 division of the Texas Stallion Stakes this fall at Retama Park.
Lone Star Park closes out its season this afternoon with an 11-race card. It is sunny and 97 degrees and there are just a few scratches for the final program of the meet. In the fourth, take out No. 5, Cook's Nook; in the seventh, scratch No. 3, Jonesicula; No. 8, El Gran Dr. Dave, and and No. 9, Kris's Word; ion the ninth, scratch No. 13, Show Me Why.
