With a mandatory payout in today's pick six owing to it being closing day, fans across the country sent it in for what essentially is a one-day handicapping tournament. A total of $679,731 was bet into the pick six. There will be no carryover. With longshots winning the first two legs, 5 of 6 might be good enough today.

Trainer John Sadler and jockey Joel Rosario, who are runaway leaders of their respective divisions this summer at Del Mar, swept today's daily double and have big chances in later races, too. Sadler will be odds-on to get the hat trick in the third race with the comebacking Cost of Freedom. Sadler will win his second straight training title here. For Rosario, it will be his first Del Mar title.

It's closing day at Del Mar. In a shocker, it's fast and firm here, air temperature about 75 degrees. Really awful stuff.
Here are the late changes as of 11:30 Pacific time:
Race 2 -- Reyes rides Don't Forget Muq
Race 4 -- blinkers on Perkins
Race 5 -- scratch Ron Bob and Dave
Race 7 -- scratch Halo Najib, Bonfante, and Italian Rules, leaving a field of 5
Race 8 -- scratch Flashover and Allicansayis Wow
Race 9 -- scratch Baroda Court
Race 10 -- rider TBA for Pat's Legacy
Don't forget, with this being closing day, there is a mandatory payout in the pick six. No carryover. So, it's basically a one-day handicapping contest. Best ticket wins, even if no one sweeps all six.

His co-owner, John Harris, said John Scott could make his next start in either the California Cup Juvenile or the Norfolk Stakes, with hopes that he could go on to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He is trained by Carla Gaines.

A total of $1,780,391 in fresh money was bet into today's pick six, owing to the $437,000 carryover from Sunday. That puts the total pool at more than $2 million, less takeout from today's fresh money. A 7-1 shot, Monolingual, won the first leg, the fifth race.

Briecat split horses and rallied to win the Adoration Stakes, the third race of the day. She is not good enough to beat the likes of Zenyatta, but fits well in these second-level stakes. Dawn Before Dawn was pulled up with what track veterinarians said was an injury to her right hind leg, either in a stifle or her pelvis. She was taken back to trainer John Sadler's barn for examination.

Pure Class added to the bountiful harvest of 2-year-old fillies trained by John Sadler when she crushed maidens in Monday's second race at Del Mar. It was her second start, but her first around two turns, and she won like a filly with a bright future. She earned a start in next month's Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting the way she won.
