Trainer Bill Mott and jockey Kent Desormeaux combined for their second win of the day when Unrivaled Belle scored a game and popular victory in the Grade 3 Rampart. The pair had combined to win an allowance race with Scolara earlier on the card.
Although Unrivaled Belle got a little wound up in the post parade when the race was delayed several minutes for betting purposes, she didn't show it during the race. Despite breaking a step slow, she edged past Champagne Eyes to control the pace then held on tenaciously to withstand that rival through the stretch. Nobody made much of a move from off the pace except Bambera, who drew plenty of pre-race publicity for having won 14 of her 16 starts prior to shipping for the U.S. but she was never a factor in her U.S. debut, retreating steadily after five furlongs to finish a distant last.
Rahy's Attorney has opened up as the 5-2 favorite with 14 minutes until the Grade 3 Appleton. Defending champ and morning line favorite Kiss the Kid currently at 6-1!
