Apprentice Jackie Davis, the 22-year-old daughter of retired journeyman rider Robbie Davis, continues to improve before our eyes. In Thursday's first race, aboard the 3-4 favorite Vinnies Wild Tale, she displayed patience and a strong finish that was absent a year ago. She settled Vinnies Wild Tale into fifth position early, bided her time before asking the gelding to run. She took the horse wide, went several times right-handed then switched to left-handed to get Vinnies Wild Tale past longshot Davy's Bank. It was her 11th win of the meet. Davis has her apprenticeship until the end of February.
