La Nez's win in a six-furlong maiden race for state-bred 2-year-old fillies in Saturday's fourth race is likely to result in an appearance in the $100,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Oct. 3, co-owner and trainer Eric Kruljac said.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, La Nez ran six furlongs in 1:11.06, finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Warren's Jitterbug. La Nez was fourth on the backstretch and took the lead in early stretch.
Kruljac said there is a "1-for-10" chance that La Nez will be supplemented to the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante on Sept. 5, but said the California Cup Juvenile Fillies was more his focus.
